“Laughter is a powerful departure. One need only recall the last time an uncontrolled eruption, a laughing “fit,” shook their body to the point of exhaustion. Georges Bataille has compared laughter to a bull, claiming that every laugh possesses a cynical recognition of death. The bull, in its fluctuation between placid animality and uncontrollable rage, serves to illustrate the destabilizing force of laughter. It is through these momentary outbursts that we are able to transgress the constraints of our normal subjectivity. To laugh is to disregard control, to recklessly abandon expectation and decorum; it is both unpredictable and dangerous. Perhaps it could even be considered as a political act.”
David McGuire, On Laughter
Specific Project Date: August 19th. 2011
FIT is located on the Terrace of the Waldorf Hotel
